Nissan has introduced an electric campervan e-NV200 in Europe (in Spain in early June 2018) that the company says will be available for summer 2018. Nissan Iberia urges people who have been waiting for an electric camper van to contact a Nissan dealer for customizing a road trip vehicle for them.
The all-electric Nissan e-NV200 is a small van, but I have seen the diesel engine model NV200 used as a campervan. It has just enough space for one or two people, but if you are traveling with a dog, I hope the tail wagger is small.
The roof can be raised for allowing standing at the kitchen area.
For a road trip, as a camper kind of vehicle, the e-NV200 has a limited range at one charge. Nissan has managed to squeeze 200 km / 124 miles or 300 km / 187 miles out of the battery, depending on the load and speed. The recharge is quite fast at a charging station: Nissan claims the battery is 80% full in 40 minutes. At home, charging takes all night.
The nice thing with the Nissan e-NV200 is that you can order it from the factory with features you want – you don’t have to build or modify a van for your travel needs yourself.
The minimal space and short range of the e-NV200 make it suitable for short trips. Maybe there is a lake 100 km from your home where you like to camp during weekends, or your mountainbike asks you to drive to a foot of a nearby mountain every weekend. Whatever it is, and you don’t have take too much stuff along, the e-NV200 is the first all-electric camper van that can be ordered from a factory.
At the moment, for instance, in Germany Nissan is only referring to the cargo van model e-NV200 that is available for orders. I will be surprised if Nissan can deliver e-NV200 campervans for the summer 2018 season.
