Mercedes-Benz wants to be ready in the EV market in all categories sooner rather than later. The German automaker introduced the Concept EQV van in early March 2019 as a concept, but confirmed it is going to production soon- likely by the end of 2019. The battery capacity, power output and available passenger/cargo space make it a van that is ready for road trips as well.
For now, the car manufacturer has introduced only one model of the EQV van, a passenger vehicle for up to 8 persons. As is the case with other Mercedes vans, we anticipate there will also be a cargo model that may interest DIY handymen who are looking for a modern electric van to convert into a campervan.
The leader of Mercedes-Benz Vans, Wilfried Porth, positions the electric van as a family vehicle, for leisure-time adventures, and as a shuttle vehicle. He expects the production of the van to start in 2019.
The Concept EQV comes with a 100 kWh battery that gives the van enough power for 400 km / 248 miles. It can be charged from a normal household plug (if you are not in a hurry), Mercedes wallbox, and rapid charging is also available for on the road situations. The rapid charging feature allows topping up 100 km / 62 miles worth of power in 15 minutes.
The all-electric van is a front wheel drive with the motor placed on the front axle. The power output is 150kW. The top speed is set to 160 kmh / 100 mph. The automaker has developed an integrated compact electric drivetrain (eATS) system that comprises the electric motor, transmission with fixed transmission ratios, cooling system and power electronics.
A new dashboard information and entertainment system is used in Mercedes electric vehicles. The new infotainment system is known as MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). The good news for drivers is that the system is coming with a self-learning voice control system, and new connectivity features.
The Concept EQ is a product brand for Mercedes’ electric concept cars. The van is called EQV, the Concept EQA is a compact electric car and the EQC a SUV.
EQ (Electric Intelligence) is a key concept in Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle strategy. The automaker is creating an entirely new range of products and services for the electric era. It all starts from electric cars, but includes also charging wallboxes, different types of services related to charging, and new infrastructure required to develop charging networks.
